Another Slide Show...

I'm guessing I'm not even halfway through looking at the Hawaii pictures closely. I started working on one day and found a lot of things that are worth processing. In addition, I don't have a set style of post processing so as that evolves I go back and re process some of my favorites. I'm having fun and since I have a result to post it isn't quite as bad as "just wasting time".

Rainy Day...

I got very little done today on this rainy day off from work. I'm back at DePaul in the AM.

I've been exploring a different form of processing pictures. In general it is referred to as HDR (high dynamic range). Much of what is out there as HDR is very new age, space age, odd looking art. There is a very wide range of what can be done with it. In general it is a process that brings a lot of what would have been in dark and exposes and that which is in bright light down into range. It has it's uses.

The new link to the right is for my HDR stuff.

If you want to see some professional HDR check out this stuff:

On the Eastern Shore...

In February the winter is relatively mild. However, the colors are flat even with sunshine. It's a black and white time of year. I went out for a drive this afternoon. I was looking for something interesting. I can't say I was successful. I did however take a few shots at the old run down building in Oyster.

I'll be working dayshifts Saturday and Sunday.

Maybe I'll find somemthing exciting Monday?

Back to the real world...

Of working for a living... I need to get my ass in gear and get a haircut and then get ready to work tonight. Two night shifts... off two days... two day shifts... off 3 days.... and on and on.... I'm not complaining... well maybe a little.

I need to lay off looking and post processing Hawaii pictures. Maybe in a couple of weeks I can go back over them with a new eye and do some more.

Till next time....

Recovery Part 2

I have two internal clocks right now competing for sleep time and so far it's a draw. Good news is I don't have to work till Tuesday night at 7. Two night shifts at DePaul will help get rid of the Hawaii time schedule and get me back to normal.

I'm wading through pictures and in the process going back through some already done and redoing them with different post processing techniques. Comments are welcomed.

Recovering

We had a bit of a nap that lasted 3 hours. We'll try to make it to bed for a regular nights sleep tonight and see if we can get back on east coast time.

I've started the long process of going through images. I made 3500 images on this trip. I'll probably have 10 or so printed. I won't add any more pics to the other slideshows but instead will start new ones like the "Odds and Ends". I'll try and start adding stories and explanations also.

Home

Our trek lasted about 20 hours. We feel a bit like this person on the boat yesterday. She was seasick almost the entire 4 hours we were on the boat. We aren't sick...just whooped!

Packing it Up

Well, the fun and games are over. It has been a great trip and we've had discussions of what it would be like to move to Hawaii. I don't think it's going to happen in this lifetime though.

We leave Kauai in 4 hours. We fly to Honolulu with at least a 3 hour layover to eat, shop one last time and work on pictures. Then it's on to Atlanta. From there we fly to Norfolk.... try and remember where the car is parked... and the one hour drive home.

Karen is arranging our trip to Japan for next year......

Friday Morning

Actually I'm writing this Thursday night but no one on the east coast will be reading this till Friday AM.

We took our boat ride up the Na Pali coast... what a great time. The whales were all over the place and we saw some spinner dolphins and a giant ray and of course the part of Kauai that can only be seen by boat or helicoptor.

I shot about 480 pics today... I went through and found a whale of a shot... a baby humpback...

I'm tired and need some sleep. Tomorrow we leave Kauai about 1230 PM and get home 1130 AM on Saturday... a very long trip.

We Leave Tomorrow

But today we have sunshine and a scheduled sailing trip up the Na Pali coast. Hopefully we will be close enough to whales to get some good shots.

There are no roads that go completely around the island and the area we will see is only accessable by boat or helicopter.

Things are winding down. The front page pic is a tourist attraction called Spouting Horn. The water column is probably about 30 feet high.

Wednesday

Let's see... it's about 130P on the east coast so that makes it 830A here... I'm just getting up. We haven't seen a sunrise since we left home.

We are down to two full days left in Hawaii and then the dreaded trek home. This place makes you think about changing life's course and relocating! However, the cost of living is outrageous and wages are not any higher than the Eastern Shore.... and overall the Internet is slow no matter where you hook up... but a rainy day is beautiful!

While taking pictures I've tried at times to find scenes and capture them in ways the average person doesn't see them. Black and white is one way to approach it as well as capturing the old and discarded and even combining the two.

Keep in mind that the pics on the blog page get cropped to fit sometimes so click on the links to the right to see them properly. Also, when in the flickr slideshow move the cursor to the right lower corner and there is an icon to click on that will give you full page pics.

Hope all is well.

Still Tuesday Morning.....

Lazy morning.... rainy with shards of sunshine. Karen and I are working on our pictures and doing some laundry.

We were going to go for a boat ride this afternoon but have rescheduled for Thursday.

The pic on this post is an aircraft engine attached to the side of a house. I'm guessing an artist/welder owns the place. You will be able to tell the other pics from this house.

More to follow.....

Tuesday Morning

It's about 1 AM here and I'm crosseyed. We had a busy day. We stumbled across a little town called Hanapepe and I decided to do the town in black and white. Eventually I'll have a separate set but for now they are all in with Kauai.

We are taking a sailing trip around the north end of the island tomorrow to see areas one can't see by road and to whale watch.

I'll keep you posted!

Monday Morning

Actually I'm posting this late Sunday night..... I'm beat! Nothing much to say right now other than I've added more pics to the Kauai section. We've seen whales but I haven't got any shots good enough to post. I'll work on that.

Have a great day.

Sunday

We are getting ready to go exploring in a few minutes. Yesterday we traveled around the west side of the island and went as far north as the roads would take us. There were some beaches on the north end we couldn't get to as the dirt and sand roads were closed due to wet weather.

Kauai is a small island and one of the oldest of the Hawaiian Islands. Therefore it is broken down by wind and weather and vegetation. While the big Island had vast expanses of lava rock, Kauai is covered in green. The pics of the canyon were taken at Waimea Canyon and we were up around 3500 feet looking down.

I've added the new section titled "Kauai".

Much Aloha
